New Etsy Shop: Scarves By Andie

At last! A proper online Etsy shop space. Please come visit Scarves By Andie. I will be working on developing the space as I get time leading up to Christmas, so please be patient. I also want to thank Mary at Post Industrial Design for allowing me to use her photos of my scarves on the site.

All my scarves are handmade in Melbourne in my dining room at home. I have a particular OCD tendency when it comes to finish, so expect near perfection! My scarves are light weight and could be the perfect gift for somone special, who is far away – I’m thinking postage here…

To be chosen to be made into an Andie scarf, the fabric needs to tick a few boxes. It has to be lightweight, soft and flowing and there needs to be either an historical or cultural reference point – something only Andie can determine!

Andie is influenced by fashion eras of the 20th Century, Japanese patterns and anything modern and fresh. Think Art Deco, the 1960’s through to the 1980’s and think Scandinavian Modern.

Hope you love the new shop. Thanks for taking a look.

Out And About: Novelty Topiary In Footscray

I’ve noticed this garden on my meanderings around Footscray for many years but the last time I walked past, on my way to the Western Hospital,  it seemed there had been a new burst of inspiration. How neat. How committed. How bizarrely beautiful!

Out And About: Hokey Pokey Vintage Emporium, Footscray

Stumbled across this incredible Vintage Emporium when out walking the other day. Footscray has become so interesting in recent years. Love my town! The Hokey Pokey Vintage Emporium is on Ballarat Road near the corner of Gordon Street, in a big old ammunitions factory space. IMG_0264 IMG_0262 IMG_0266 IMG_0268

Worth a look.

Out And About: Post Industrial Design And POD

IMG_0164Jess, Fi and Tim at POD (Post Industrial Design) are extremely serious about their food. They are forever plotting and planning and conspiring about the next big recipe. And guys? They are doing it for us! You gotta love them. And you gotta love their food. There should be total respect for their creative process, not just their amazing marriages of flavour, and the wonderfully warm atmosphere of the cafe itself. The coffee is great. As was my Breakfast Greens Salad, with goat’s cheese, thick cut bacon, poached egg and gluten free toast.

While you are there, wander through Mary’s shop and discover a range of new products, including my new favourite, Otto and Spike scarves.

Street Art In My Neighbourhood

There has been a massive increase in the number of street artworks in my suburb. This one took my eye – a commemorative portrait of once Prime Minister, Malcolm Fraser, who died in March this year. This work is outside the Asylum Seeker’s Center in Footscray, Victoria.

This work was created by artist Heesco.
